It seems to me that the biggest areas for growth with "Enterprise Java" is either into the space currently occupied by PHP et al, or the cloud computing space which (though in early days right now) is arguably the next generation of that and other market segments. In either case, what is needed is easier set up of this kind of infrastructure for hosting providers and superior sharing of resources to make scaling across customers work better than the current JVM stacks. Seems to me that VMWare might be exactly the right company to help make those kind of changes a reality - if Google doesn't beat them to it.
