It's great
having the time there though! If you want to see the date, pull down
on the notification area--the date replaces the notification icons.
If you want the date all the time, add a widget. Not sure why you say
adding widgets is ugly: long-press, press Widget, and select your
widget. Takes two seconds.
the widget I added looked out of place and ugly. I'll post a pic.
