Good to see Palm getting good talent. I love WebOS and the Linux internals it is built on. The chipset on the Pre is quite performant and handles multitasking and graphics well. The physical device could be of higher quality and I hope that is something Palm focuses on in the next generation. The Pre feels a little cheap. Since the first WebOS release Palm has continuously improved and opened more of the functionality and performance of the platform. I'm not into gaming but the 1.3.5 release opened up a lot of graphics capabilities that had the gamers I know going gaga (http:// www.palminfocenter.com/news/10012/doom-ported-to-palm-pre-is-hardwareaccelerated/). Some of the net sync functionality and integration of contacts and calendars is more seamless than what I've seen on the iPhone or Android OSs (particularly the beast that is Exchange).
I've opened my Pre up a bit and have easy access to the underlying Linux OS. It is pretty sweet not only to be able to SSH from your phone but also to it. Java is already on the phone though only as a subsystem. Flash support is announced for the first half of 2010. I also occasionally tether with it when I travel since Sprint doesn't freak out about such things nearly as much as other carriers. There are more and more apps every day in the App Catalog and the Homebrew/ Preware though nothing like the Apple. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
