Nobody ever argued that HTML5 is NOT the future of the web, but it's
been a long road and we're still not here yet. And given Steve
departure from his original WWDC 2007 attitude towards 3'rd part apps
on the iPhone (Ajax based exclusively), I think it's fair to conclude
that not even him, can truly predict the future.

This whole debate revolves around the question whether a political
agenda or personal preference should be allowed to shuehorn users.
Yesterday it's just the iPhone, today it's the iPad, tomorrow the
iMac. And then there's the collateral damage, i.e. the no man's land
that the MonoTouch stack now appears to be in.

As to the Microsoft opinion you reference, they aren't exactly a
neutral part in the RIA game. They are aggressively pushing their own
competitor in the form of Silverlight, which is now even slated to
become the primary interface on Windows Mobile 7. So they likely have
a vested interest in Flash dying as well.
