I have mixed feelings about that. I try to put myself in the extreme
(and rather irrealistic) situation of Apple dropping Mac OS X. From a
certain perspective, I must have Mac OS X because I must be able to
work with all the major operating systems, since it could be used by a
customer of mine. Thus, I must have a Mac. If Mac OS X disappears,
then even my need of having it disappears because I won't have
customer using it.

For some common tasks such as email, posting, communicating,
developing code, Linux is fine and is better. For managing media,
presentations, my photos (excluding cataloguing, for which I use my
own software), Mac OS X is the best solution. But I suppose that in
extreme need I could manage my photo in a Windows box of Linux. So,
yes, Mac OS X it's better for certain things and if it's around I use
it; but I won't commit suicide if it disappeared. My end point is that
there is NO a really good and general purpose operating system around.
