Should I take that as a hint that there isn't a whole lot going on JUG wise in the North of England?

If anyone wanted to try and have a JUG event I might be able to try and get the University to host one (if I twist their arm hard enough...or use enough reason and persuasion). I personally think it is very much in the University's interest to try and host events like that. It could also benefit the brighter students to help them do some networking as well as keeps staff up to date with what is going on in industry. I certainly think is would be considerably more useful than the departments efforts to try and convince students that belonging to the British Computing Society is really important to their careers (in spite of personal experience of finding the BCS totally irrelevant to IT professionals along with the Computing Society of every other country I am aware of, NZCS I am looking at you). It all depends on whether is any demand for it. Perhaps if the University has contacts with some local businesses and tries to get the world out that we are trying to get some JUG like activity going on. We would need a speaker. I would personally quite like to hear someone speak about Scala as there is so much buzz about it and feel like I should be learning it. I would hope the University would not try to charge for being a host (maybe it depends how hard I twist their arm).
