Thank you for those suggestions. It looks like I will be having a meeting early next week to discuss the idea of forming a JUG. I expect that even if it is approved it will probably take a lot of work to get it going initially. Hopefully if the quality is good, word will be spread by the initial members and numbers may increase.
I want to be sure presentations and discussions are relevant to developers, particularly in business. The likes of the British Computing Society put on speakers but many of the presentations seems to miss the mark in terms of being relevant to developers. These are often also held during the day and often in London. I know personally I am not inclined to take time off world to travel down to London to attend a presentations which isn't really that relevant to me. Not to mention the British Computing Society charges for Membership. I would hope things should be able to be kept free. The University may be short of money due to Government cuts but it doesn't really cost the University to make some rooms or lecture theatres available. I am more worried about parking spaces. We lost one of the staff car parks due to the expansion of one of the buildings and the replacement car park won't be ready for a while. If lots of people turn up in cars I would need to be sure they have somewhere to park. It may just be that I have to say that people can feel free to turn up if they are coming by public transport but I would have to know in advance if they are coming by car to arrange visitors parking permits. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
