First thing to check is always turning of firewall and all type of
virus scanning (or similar stuff).
Can you exclude stuff like that blocking you?

Another thing: Are you experiencing this also in different
environments or at particular customer(s) only?
Some companies do have content walls and whereever I faced such a
thing, it never worked flawlessly (but this of course might not apply
if your problem is with communication kept within the company and
usually occurs independent from used OS but who knows...).
