I'll contact them. In the meantime, I've turned in all my pcap files
to the manufacturer of the server device. The Windows 7 OS seems to
make TCP ACK requests very often, while Ubuntu and XP seem to do so at
the beginning of the connection, when there isn't much going on
anyway. I am beginning to suspect this is a problem with the firmware
in the device.

We have some minor Swing redraw issues, but the overall performance on
Windows 7 doesn't seem that different vs. XP or Ubuntu. I have to ship
the machine, and I don't want to pay for the XP downgrade, so we're
shipping the system with Ubuntu 10, which ran the system for three
hours, no problem, immediately upon copying the jar over to it.
