Yes. I've had experience with virus scanners causing problems for real-
time control, and we pull it off all the machines. The firewall is
disabled.

Here in our facility. The machine and the computer are on their own
physical network. We avoid problems with customer's networks and
policies by requiring them to put a separate network card if they want
it on their network.
