The topic of this thread is specifically about Android. Lots of the VM bits of harmony aren't being used AFAIK for Android; google has rewritten that aspect of a java-like system from scratch (Dalvik and dex files). IBM pulling their 9 committers out isn't going to change anything for them, at least not in regards to development / the technical aspect. There's the legal ramification that this move would suggest IBM is not going to throw its gigantic patent portfolio into the ring on google's side, though. I actually didn't quite count that out until this happened; IBM is a major player in the java space who is utterly reliant on it. You'd expect they would not be happy with Oracle strengthening their position of power over the platform.
