I think all customers are worried about their data. The question is how good would they be at protecting it. The answer to that is simple. They don't know anything about the data, how to protect it, but are very reliant on it. The fact that I can target iPad, iPhone, Palm, Android, and other devices and platforms is not lost on me. It is easier to get browser technology to work everywhere than it is Java at present. Apple updates its browser frequently, but Java doesn't get updated there much.
For my purposes I think HTML5/CSS/JavaScript is the winner and that is the direction I have been heading. I'm a Java developer though so all server side stuff is in that language. I've been working with Groovy and love it. I'll be doing that on the server side more and more. I'm not convinced of Grails though having worked with JQuery and calling services to get data. That appeals to me more than trying to use a Java framework to create the user interface.
