Even before Windows 95 put Microsoft on the path of domination it enjoys today, the Mac was never even close to a monopoly in the PC world, even despite its heavy fragmentation (raise a hand if you owned an Amiga back then :-)). Even MS-DOS-based PC's were selling better than Macs back then.
