I did not equate openness with popularity, i just said Windows is a more
'open' environment than the Mac. One example is the ability to pick
computers from different hardware vendors. Given most people's understanding
of 'open' Windows is closer to this ideal than the Mac. Im just saying
giving consumers this choice certainly helped Windows become more popular,
something that Android is also doing. Google is concentrating on the
software side while letting hardware manufacturers provide choice for
everyone out there who is interested.
