I don't think patent law is going to change anytime soon, at least not
in the US and Europe where most patent lawsuits are filed.  So for the
time being, as a company in the mobile space, you better stack up on
patents.  So Apple apparently bought the Novell patents - together
with Microsoft, Oracle and EMC, quite the ragtag group if you ask me
(http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-20025906-75.html).  And Apple is
supposedly bidding for Nortel's telco patents, like Google and RIM do
(http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2010/12/apple-google-rim-go-
shopping-for-nortel-patents.ars).
