As an non-US consumer, I disagree regarding the format. For the last 15 years, DVD's 7+ regions and mandated optical drive firmware made it hard* to purchase a DVD in the UK and view it in Canada: - Unlike the 7+ DVD region codes, blu-ray only describes 3 regions, making it a bit simpler. - Blu-ray region codes are verified only by the player software, not by the optical drive's firmware. - It's estimated that 75% of blu-ray material is released region-free, a stark contrast to DVD. *Usually worked to buy a DVD player in an airport and contacting the manufacturer with a receipt in order to obtain instructions for setting another region. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
