I am pretty happy with Blu-Ray all in all though the battle went on
for so long that by the time the discs have become main stream It
would be nice to have larger capacity discs (at least when using them
for data). A size of 100gb+ would be nice for doing backups but still
as it is, Blu-ray discs are easier for backup than having to use loads
of DVDs.

I still like optical media for making backups which then get archived
away.

As regards the idea of not wanting to own movies, I think this is
probably down to personal preference. I think that there are a great
number I would want to own and have in my collection. There may be
some which are ok to watch but I would not wish to own.

My ideal movie service would work the same way that Steam works for
games. I can use or install the client in different places. I log in
and have access to everything which I own. It is my collection and it
follows me. I don't have provisos as to where I watch my movies but
accept the reasonable requirement that I cannot be logged in in more
than one place at once (as with steam). I could go and visit someone
and log in at their house if we wanted to watch something out of my
collection. I can see a potential shortcoming in the scenario where
having physical media, more than one movie can be watched at the same
time out of my collection but the constraint to just be logged in in
one place would probably not allow that. Some with families might have
instances where the children want to watch one thing and the parents
another. This might be sidestepped by having more than one account
such as one for the Children with the children's movies in it and a
separate one for the parents. I suppose that would be a policy issue
rather than a legal one.
