How much protection does sale of Movies on optical media provide? It
is still possible and indeed common for the owner of a Movie on
optical media to lend their movie to a friend. The same goes for
printed books. Electronic Books and Media-less Movies generally are
more restrictive than owning physical media in that regard. I don't
know what the law states about ownership rights. It would not surprise
me if the letter of the law said that only the owner of the media was
licensed to watch the media and so cannot lend it to others or watch
it with others. Also while watching it alone the volume must be kept
low enough so neighbours cannot overhear and it become an unauthorised
public broadcast.
