git allowed me to make 4 new branches to try various fixes to a
problem out, with probably 3 or 4 commits to each branch, and switch
between them, while I was at a customer's site unable to access the
Internet (and hence our centralised source control repositories).
Compared to driving back to the office, I'd say git was about 1000,000
times faster than svn on that occasion.

(actually there was a McDonald's nearby I probably could have got onto
the 'net from)
