To me, popularity means that I can Google for issues that I have and
find an answer more often than not.  I can't judge wether more
companies use Git or Mercurial, so I stick to what I can see happen in
the open source world.  Eclipse choosing Git over Mercurial has some
weight, though, in the Java world - and Linux and Android using Git
also has some importance.  :-)
