It's a virus which, at most, would impact 10% of PC users (and probably a lot less). Safari was recently hacked in a pretty spectacular way at Pwn2Own (it was the very first browser to get broken into, by the way), and what did you hear about it? Nothing. Nobody cares. There is very little to gain for hackers on the Mac platform, neither prestige nor money, which is why you're not seeing any malware activity on Mac OS. It doesn't mean anything about the safety of the platform because nobody has really bothered trying hacking into it.
