I didn't realize you were asking if there are libraries written in non- Java languages that are popular to use in Java-only projects. Depending on your definition of "the new big foss thing" there's easyb, Spock, Gant, Gradle, GORM, all popular and usable in your Java project. Are any of them the new big foss thing?
