Jigsaw is not a priority because it has no direct, positive impact on its ability to make money. Why would it be a priority?
Its a bit like asking why Oracle isn't busy coming up with "Java 3". Where's the business driver? Why invest huge sums of money when there is no obvious business driver, use case or guarantee of success. Sun were R&D driven (in hindsight, a bit too R&D driven). I always expected this of Oracle but I'm not sure who would have been a better steward - Google for example are busy creating other languages like Go. Maybe that's because they don't own Java - or maybe it isn't. Either way we're stuck with Oracle, but as most of my work is now Groovy, Grails and Scala I have less and less interest in the timeline for Java releases. Having a large JRE isn't an issue for my server development work and not having key Java language features isn't either. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Java Posse" group.
