You make it sound as if somehow, Eclipse had failed and IDEA succeeded. At
the very least, I see these two IDE's in a fifty-fifty tie in mind share,
but in terms of ecosystem, number of plug-ins and side projects that were
derived from the base IDE, Eclipse is far, far ahead of IDEA. And yes, I do
believe that OSGi was a big factor in this lead, as was Eclipse's original
vision (which was much more geared toward plug-ins since day one while IDEA
focused on making an IDE first and make it extensible later).
