Hello,

Basically, what you want to do is start playing your file in Winamp as you
normally would, but beforehand, change how Winamp outputs that content.

By default, of course, it merely sends the audio output to your sound card,
thus you instantly hear the audio that Winamp is playing. You can, however,
tell it to output the playback to a wave or MP3 file instead.

Press CTRL+P from within Winamp to open the Preferences dialog box, and
expand "Plug-ins" in the tree view. Select Output in the part of the tree
under Plugins.

Tab twice to the list of currently installed plugins. The one labelled
Direct Sound Output is what you normally would use to play a file. What you
want to select is the Nulsoft Disk Writer plugin, which will make a wave
file from whatever source is being played. Tab and activate the Configure
plugin button, to specify the output directory and change other settings for
the Nulsoft Disk Writer plugin, then activate OK on that dialog and close
the Winamp preferences dialog, and you're all set.

More elegantly still, you can install a third-party plugin that will
actually do the MP3 conversion right in Winamp. One such plugin is
downloadable here:

Cheers

Grant
