Hi Bryan and others. The reason the OGG format is regarded by some as a better format hands down is twofold, at least.
1. The OGG vorbis format apparently requires no kind of license to use as MP3 does, so developers of audio software do not need to buy a license to use the mp3 encoders. 2. OGG uses a variable bitrate that mp3 doesn't use. The variable bit rate allows a files bit rate to become lower when the data is not very loud or complex, such as when all that's playing is a symbol or something, and then for the bit rate to get higher when the sound becomes louder and more complex, such as when a full orchestra is playing. Because of this, the hard drive space taken up is less than mp3 files take up. The problem with ogg format is that some mp3 players don't know how to play it, and some software packages, though fewer and fewer at this point, can play ogg or use it to burn audio cd's. MP3 is a more universal format in that regard, though OGG certainly is catching up. Ultimately, at this point, it's a matter of preference. If MP3 meets a need or a preference that OGG may not, that's cool, even if that means just not being comfortable with an unfamiliar file format. Why? And, First, I don't know much about OGG though I hear it mentioned a lot. What is it? Secondly, can I make an audio CD from files with this extension? Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Lee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 26, 2007 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Converting with Winamp > Victor, > > I am not a WINAMP user so I can't advise about converting with that > program. > However, if you go to www.dbpoweramp.com and follow the link to the CoDec > center, you can download a OggVorbis CoDec for encoding.
