Hi Jo, Try the following: 1. Go to the control panel & press enter on default programs. 2. Tab to, Associate a file type or protocol with a program link, & press enter. 3. Tab to, change program button, & arrow down to find & highlight the file type you want to change. 4. Tab to the, change program button, & press spacebar. 5. You're now in a list of programs you can choose from to be the default program for this particular file type. You may need to use all arrow keys, left, right, up, & down, arrow keys to find the program you want. 6. With the program you want highlighted, tab to, Okay, & press enter.

The file extension, .doc, is the old file extension for MS Word prior to Word 2007, & possibly 2003, but I'm not sure about 2003. If you have a newer version of Word installed, you will also need to have the, Compatibility Pack, installed. This program allows newer versions of Office to open, read, & edit older files from older Office versions. If you need to know how to assign a program to open this file, now this is a totally different set of steps.
