I'm using Jaws 18. Jaws 18 and the companion software have been getting
along beautifully until my computer was moved from one physical location to
another. At the same time, all the items in Documents got mixed up, and are
not in the same order that they were. That isn't a problem since I find
things by pressing the key with the first letter of the item I'm looking
for. But it can't be a coincidence that these changes happened after the
computer traveled from Westbury to South Huntington.

Yes, but that way your folder wouldn't disappear. There must be some
interaction between jaws 2018 or windows 10 and your software that is
causing the folder to disappear. If that is true then your problem won't go
away until the offending software is changed. Not much you can do about
that.

Thanks. But the point of having the books folder is to use the companion
software. Otherwise, I can just unzip the book in downloads, where it
arrives and transfer it. The reason for using the companion software is that
one can unzip and transfer several books at one time and it's somewhat
easier than unzipping the book with windows.

Why don't you try this. Create a new folder and name it. Put the zip folder
which contains the book you want into that folder. Now make sure that the
zip folder has focus. Press the application key and arrow up until you find,
extract all. Press return on that. The book zipped file will be opened, and
all of the files will be extracted to a file of the same name. You will then
have two files of the same name in the folder. One will be the original
zipped file.. The other will be your book with all of the necessary files in
it. Copy and paste this file to your card or device. You will then have
your book on the card or device, and the folder you used will still be
there with both files in it, one the zipped file the other the extracted
file of the same name. You can delete one of them if you wish. But anyhow, I
am confident if you unzip a book this way, and then copy the book file to
your card or device, the new folder you created will be there when you go
back and will not disappear.

Jeff,

The Humanware Companion software always works the same way. It finds the zip
folder that contains the files for the book in my books folder. It unzips
the zip folder, puts all the files in a folder, and then transfers this
folder onto the SD card for the VR Stream or the cartridge for the NLS
player. There's never been a problem, ever since Humanware developed this
piece of software. It works with zip folders from NLS and Bookshare. The
software is set to find the zip folders in my books folder which I've always
had, ever since I began downloading books in 2007.

Miriam,

When you perform the transfer to your SD card, do you transfer the entire
folder or just the files inside the folder? I'm wondering if the program
you're using to transfer the files is removing them once they are
transferred. If you're specifying the folder to transfer, it may be removing
it once it's been transferred. Just a thought.
