In my Word 2002, no AVG, I opted to delete the recovered files.  I was able 
to tab to then enter on the remove button, or whatever it was.  So far, so 
good.

Did you have AVG installed? Based on someone's reply earlier it was thought
that AVG comes into play in this mystery of the recovered word I keep
hearing..
