Well this is interesting, because when someone sent me an email regarding 
word not working, and one of the solutions was to rename the normal.dot to 
oldnormal.dot.
However, when I try to do a search for it, it comes back empty no files 
found. I of course followed the instructions mentioned in the email to the 
letter, but no matches are ever found for normal.dot.
I know where it is as I found 2 occurrances of it in a folder on the 
computer's C drive. One is the Normal.dot and the other is, $normal.dot.

Sould I do a new search with the $ sign first, or go directly to where the 
normal.dot is and delete it from there?
I used the windows key, and then went to the search submenu and typed in, 
normal.dot and tab to search all files/folders, looked in the Cdrive this is 
the method I did to perform this search.
