Most laptops have an embedded numpad. For example on my laptop, when the numlock is on and you press the Function Key and then press the letter "J" you will get the number 1. "K" will produce the number 2, the letter "U" is the number 4, the letter "I" will give you the number 5, and so on. When the numlock is off, these same keys pressed with the function will produce the JAWS commands you are used to getting from the numpad on a standard keyboard's. If you need to combined these keys with the insert key, you will now be doing a 3-key command. Many people find this inconvenient, thus going back to the laptop commands.
