On the desktop shortcut to JAWS10, alt+enter, and then tab through and press
the letter j. If a dong is heard, then j cannot be applied here. If a dong
is not heard, tab through straight to OK and hit enter. DO NOT HIT
SHIFT-TAB as that will in effect undo it. If after all that it didn't take,
use a different combination (like ctrl-shift-j, or alt-shift-j, or
shift-ctrl-alt-j, or some other suitable combo that might involve the
version name or number.) Finally, if it can't work, use narrator or another
screen reader to help in doing it. Using narrator, it will work, and it
seems to me that you can shift-tab then if you must.

Gentle reminder: This topic has been beaten to death many times over the
past two years, and there are copious amounts of emails on it in the list
archive. This problem is not new, and has not really been solved either.
What I've offered above are 'best practices' based on my experience and
others verified reports on what routines work reliably.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws hot key not working

Hi All,

We created a hot key for Jaws 10.x through the properties shortcut page on a
friends computer. When she unloads Jaws with the Insert + F4 key stroke,
then tries to restart with control, alt, + J keystroke nothing happens. She
then has to reboot the computer to get Jaws running again. What are we
doing wrong. She is running XP Pro & Jaws 10.x. All advice will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

Mike
