yes, it is possible to roll back. Control Panel, Add or Remove. then Tab to the list of programs.
Windows Internet Explorer 8 will be close to the bottom of that list; so you'll need to down-arrow quite a way to get there. You can then uninstall Internet Explorer 8, and be brought back to your previous version.
