I was presuming that Fred's machine was newer, and therefore would lack the
earlier I.E. versions.
Flor is right, though. Doing as I described in the previous reply might
cause minor registry problems.

yes, it is possible to roll back.
Control Panel, Add or Remove.
then Tab to the list of programs.
Windows Internet Explorer 8 will be close to the bottom of that list; so
you'll need to down-arrow quite a way to get there. You can then
uninstall Internet Explorer 8, and be brought back to your previous
version. It is not necessary (nor even desirable) to get Internet
Explorer 6 from somewhere else and reinstall it.
