But in this case, as I understood things, JAWS froze i.e. hung), and wouldn't speak, so there was nothing to hear from JAWS and the insert+b keystroke would be inoperative. The equivalent of a blue screen. that does happen occasionally. Yes there are situations where nothing appears to be happening and cancel is the appropriate option; but then you still have JAWS operating.

A tip for those annoying times when you can only hear Jaws saying the
highlighted button of a dialogue box, in this case cancel, use the insert plus B command to force the reading of the entire dialogue box in which case
this message would have been read out to you.

Hi Flor,

I wrote you about Jaws 10 freezing when I tried to update it. You suggested that I try to install the latest version of Jaws directly from the web site. Once again, my laptop froze after it was restarted. All Jaws would say when i used a say line was, cancel. Before I turned off the computer, I had my
son read what was on the screen. He read a message, "Windows cannot
reccognize/varify some drivers. Do you want to install anyway?"

I had him click and the install went perfectly. I don't know if Vista had
anything to do with it, but Jaws is now working perfectly.

Thanks again!
Russ
