Thanks for replying.  I will probably scan more often than print- and
occasionally (but not often) scan larger things like books.  It sounds like
you are a heavy scanner and this is the reason you mentioned needing a high
speed scanner.  So then, are the multis quite a bit slower than
stand-alones?  And, is this true of all multis?  Thanks.

     If you mainly want to print with casual scanning of documents I would 
highly recommend buying an all in one unit. Personally, I prefer HP but what

ever fits the user is the right one for them.
     In my case I needed a high speed scanner. My system would only allow me

to have one scanner. So, I had to change to having separate scanner and 
printers. This is my experience for what it is worth.
