Dear Mark,
The scanner that I have is a One touch vissioneer 9320 USB. Is that a nice
scanner to be able to scan documents? My rehab counselor purchased it for
me along with O-book I think in late 2005 2006 or early 2007. I know it was
sometime in one of those three years. It's hard to keep track since time
goes by so fast.
First I had O-book for awhile. I still have the program but I think in 2007
I purchased Kurzweil 1000. I still have the O-book software program but
it's not installed on my computer anymore since Linda my other blind friend
helped me install Kurzweil 1000.
The only thing I don't like about books meaning the large ones is I loose
track so unfortunately I really don't scan things very much. Also things
with huge pages.
Best wishes,
Jenny Bomareto

Hi
If you are wanting a high speed scanner, I would suggest the HP 5000.
This scanner scans 25 pages a minute and scans bought sides of the page at
the same time. It costs between $700 and $800 US. The reason I have to use
such a machine is that I am scanning textbooks for my college classes.
Some
of those are 1300 pages long. There are lower priced options if a person
is
scanning single sided pages or if high speed is not a concern.
One thing to consider is to take the number of seconds it takes to
scan
a page and multiply it times the number of pages in your average document
you would want to scan. This gives a little bit of a view of how long it
will take for your normal scan job.
Just my thoughts.
God bless,
Mark

Thanks for replying. I will probably scan more often than print- and
occasionally (but not often) scan larger things like books. It sounds
like
you are a heavy scanner and this is the reason you mentioned needing a
high
speed scanner. So then, are the multis quite a bit slower than
stand-alones? And, is this true of all multis? Thanks.

Hi
If you mainly want to print with casual scanning of documents I would
highly recommend buying an all in one unit. Personally, I prefer HP but
what
ever fits the user is the right one for them.
In my case I needed a high speed scanner. My system would only allow
me
to have one scanner. So, I had to change to having separate scanner and
printers. This is my experience for what it is worth.

Can anyone provide info on some models to look for and which to avoid
for
the above? I've heard some folks say to avoid multi-functions
altogether
but others seem to think the combination works- so would very much
appreciate any direct experience or advice. Thanks.
Cher
