if you have either Open Book or K1000, they both have a virtual printer.
With the document on screen, go into the "Print" menu and in the list of
available printers, you should see which ever virtual printer you have.
Select it and hit the "print" button just like you would when you
ordinarily print a document. The program will perform OCR on the
document, just like it would if you scanned a printed page. Your
results may vary and you may get gibberish, or you may get enough
recognition to at least get the gist of what the document contains. I
believe that later versions of K1000 will perform this OCR without
having to use the KESI virtual printer.

PDFtoOCR file

JoAnne,

I'm not entirely clear on your issue but think it is similar
to the issue I face when I get my gas & electric bill via
PDF attachment. The only way I know to convert a PDF image
or picture that actually contains text is to print it out on
your printer and then scan the printed version back into
your computer which will use your OCR program. In my case
it is OmniPage version 15. I know this is a pain but that is
the way I have found to get around it when needed. Maybe
others have something more creative?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] program and help needed for converting
image PDF
toOCR file

Some of my very important documents have been sent to me
from places like banks and legal places, but they are in
picture PDF form. I did look on the programs page and
thought the PDF to OCR would be perfect, but when extracted
it shows a list of 8 things and I have no idea what any of
these items does. There isn't a help file, and there
doesn't seem to be menus for conversion or places where you
can select a PDF file and folder to browse, etc. I don't
even see it in programs in start menu or on desktop. It
simply unzips unrecognizable folders but I don't feel it's
completely installed.

If someone has a solution for this or even another easier
program so Jaws can read these image files, please let me
know.

Thanks.

Joanne
