start menu. Run and enter "msconfigg" from there, control tab until you hear startup. from there, arrow down the list and deselect any programs you don't want to auto start with your computer. be careful not to deselect any system files making absolutely sure you only uncheck boxes of familiar programs. IN my case, I deselect ITunes, acrobat adolby and etc. I now only have a few. note: I noticed in XP it lists many many, but in Windows 7, it list a few. I kept my antivirus/spyware checked for obvious reasons. HTH!
