If you are using JAWS 12 you can turn them off so you only
hear a click in the background

You probably could remove "links" if you saved the page as a
text-only
document.

Probably a better solution is to invoke the SayAll scheme
with sounds.  This
makes a click but doesn't say "link" when it encounters a
link.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
