It looks like a nice search, I normally use but like this one as much.

Thank you as well, my program of choice is gold wave for converting audio
file from one format to another. Your directions as to how it gets on the
phone is what I needed and since two of you sent the same instructions I
concede to your greater ability in this area.
Unless somebody else creates such an animal you probably won't see an iTunes
tutorial on the audio page any time soon, certainly not done by me.

Hi
I believe that for the iPhone, a ringtone must be in the m4r format. If
it's not already in that format, I believe there are several paid and free
programs to convert it, but I don't remember any of the free ones write now.
The one I used was Replay Converter. The method that worked for me with
iTunes was the following. Copy the m4r file to the folder named
Automatically Add to iTunes which can be found in the iTunes\iTunes Media or
iTunes\iTunes Music folder. The iTunes folder is usually in you're my Music
folder. Then when you start iTunes, the m4r file will be moved to the
iTunes Ringtones folder. SO when you sync with the phone, the ringtone is
now there and can be selected in the phone.

In all honesty it is beyond my ability at this time, if anybody knows how to
do it please send along the information. Not only will I make use of it but
I will also post it on the server.
