it is not a screen reading problem. The problem also pops up when my wife is
using the computer.

Why not try it with another screen-reader, such as NVDA. It's free, so
you have little materially to lose.

Hello Lenny, When you opened the task manager did you go to the processes
page tab? It sounds like you might have just checked the applications
that were open in the application page. Use Ctrl with tab key in the task
manager to get to the processes tab and then check the list of items for
more than one listing of the winword.exe process. Use the end task button
if you find winword.exe. This might not be the case but if all you
found were listings for the 3 applications that were open at the time then
you might not have been in the processes page of the dialog. I hope you
get it worked out. Take care. Brian Lee

Well, I thought that I had the problem and maybe a work around. I sure
was wrong.
I just wanted to modify a document. In my documents I clicked on the file
and it opened in word, as it should. Made the changes and went to save.
Again I received the notification that the normal template is in use by
another application. Used ctl shift escape to see what was running. Only
3 items. word 2010, my documents and jaws.
I attempted a force shutdown on word. I then received a few other errors
about the global template being changed. Just forced a restart of the
computer.
