OK, here we go. To start with, if you happen to be running Windows 7, just
open the Start menu and select All Programs, and arrow down to Microsoft
Office. Open this and scroll through the programs within Office finding the
ones that you want on your desktop. For each one that you do, right click on
that program and then select the Send To option and then select Desktop
(create shortcut).
If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1, then it is a little more complicated,
but not too bad. Start by opening File Explorer, and then your C: crive. Now
open Program files, and scroll down to Microsoft Office 15. Open Office 15
and scroll down to find the Root folder, and from here find the folder nmed
Office 15. OK, this is the folder that contains all of the esecutable files
for your Office programs. Unfortunately, they are not all called by the name
that you and I know the programs by, but that’s OK. Start by pressing the
letter E until you come to Excel, you can press EX to find it quicker, and
once you do, right click on it and select either Create Shortcut, or Send
To, and then Desktop (Create Shortcut). Now, you just repeat this for the
remainder of the applications that you want on your desktop. The file names
that you will be looking for are as follows:
Word - Winword
Excel - EXCEL
Outlook - Outlook
One Note - Onenote
Power Point - POWERPNT
Access - MSACCESS
Publisher - MSPUB
OK, that’s it. Hope it helps.

I have office 365 so any help with getting it to my desktop would be great.
thanks,
Also,
Is outlook friendly with JAWS or is there a setting I can activate to
use a less complicated interphase so it's friendly with JAWS 16?

Hey Dacia,
First of all you must have either Office 2013 or Office 365 installed on
your computer. It could be the Home edition, the Home and Business
Edition, or whatever. Then hopefully, you will already have the icons for
Word, excel, etc on your desktop. If you don't, then we can go through
the
steps of putting them there, if you have one of these versions of Office.
Then, you could just go to your desktop and press enter on the icon for
Word and it, of course, would open. Let me know what version of Office
you
are running , and we can take it from there.

Hi,
In the File tab, arrow down to options, and select General. Tab on down
until you find Show the start screen when this program opens, and
uncheck
this box. Now select OK and now the back stage view will not come up
when
you open Word, just a blank document.
As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app is
not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally
accessible.
On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes
to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it
a name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving
features, go down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in
the name that you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to
the Save button and press enter. If you do not want to save the document
to the default folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit
field, type in the path to where you want the document saved, such as:
c:\archives\document name.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] questions about Word 2013
Hi,
I have several questions about Word 2013. I am using windows 8.1 and
JAWS 16. How do I set it so it will open a document without having me
hit enter on the backstage view when I just want a new document
opened? Also, it says is the word app is there a more blind friendly
version? Also, having trouble saving as, it brings up a save
features dialogue box and am not sure what to do.
thanks,
Dacia
