Hi Folks,

Just changing the subject line to reflect the new route this thread has taken.

I have just found out that one cannot simply do a re-format of the hard drive in order to install Windows 10, or to do a clean installation of Windows 10 and that Windows 10 must be installed as an upgrade. This is saddening, but alas, one can't really look a gift horse in the mouth.

Some people have messaged me off-list and given me a few tips, such as uninstalling programs that I feel may interfere with the installation, and I'm still going to uninstall that really old sound card to see if that's the problem too, even though the Windows 10 upgrade assessment states that the sound card is not going to be a problem.

In any case, if you want to read what I read about upgrading to Windows 10, please see the following link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-10/why-activate-windows-10

I'll let you all know what happens.

why not try getting the free windows 10 upgrade. if you got the get windows
10 notification just click it and reserve a copy. then just use the win 10
media creation tool to upgrade your computer.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] W 8.1 upgrade

I am using W7, outlook 2010 and latest jaws at present. I am having
problems with W7 installing windows updates. A Microsoft technician went
through my computer and told me that the only solution to my problem is to
get a computer repair tech to repair my computer and the other solution is
to upgrade to W8.1 or W10. The computer is to old for W10 but I think it
could handle W8.1. I would like to know if there is a big learning curve
between W7 and W8.1 as I think that might be the cheapest way to go.This is
my old backup and experimental computer so I am looking for easiest and
cheapest way out. This is an old computer but still works pretty well.
Thanks for any suggestions or advice.
