The only one Plantronics made I heard of is the SMH1783-11. The issue is
that it has this quick disconnect plug that is designed to work with desk
phones, but only the ones they support. I have a job prospect that might
come through where I'd need to take calls, and if they use a software phone
instead, I'm not sure what one would need to adapt a desk phone connection
as on this thing to a sound card connection computers use. One guy at
Plantronics suggested it might work, but because the amp part couldn't be
used doing it this way, one might get weak mic audio or none at all because
the mic in it needs adequate power. Since custom order stuff is usually
unreturnable, what would I tell VR to get so I don't waste their money on
something that has a chance of not working?

Scorpio,
I actually tried to do the balance for each device. In prior versions of
windows you could affect the balance, but it was for all sound and not
application specific. So far it looks like I'm going to check out the
Plantronics headset mentioned in another email. Would be great if the
headset came in Bluetooth.
Thanks,
Jason

My apologies for my last post, as I gave incorrect information regarding
moving the sound from the dual channel to the single one. It would seem
this is not possible, and my only explanation for thinking this could be
done was that I was listening to a podcast on Winamp, and I could change
the channels on that application.
Anyway, I am sorry for the misinformation.

In all the years I've used JAWS, it's never been set up to allow
channeling to a single side. Appears to be a purely monaural signal fed to
the sound driver.
I use a Plantronics headset specifically designed for this need. Left side
is telephone plus boom mike, right side is sound card output. They also
sell a sound card dongle designed to work with this splitting.

I did that with a piece of custom hardware when I was working. One of the
field engineers made a splitter box for me. It had two inputs on one side
and one output on the other side. The box was a plastic box about a little
smaller than a cigarette package. Inside the wires from the sound card
went
to one side of the stereo jack for the headphones. The phone wires went to
the other side along with the transceiver for the mike. At the time the
cost
was about $9 for the parts. If you know any ham radio operators they
should
be able to make one for you very easy. Also some of your computer support
technicians may also be able to make the box. I retired in 1999 and about
2
years ago while cleaning up I tossed it. I had not needed it since I
retired
and then a few weeks ago I really could have used it when on the phone
with
an Apple support tech.

I've been using JAWS for 19 years and so far have not encountered that
ability. Honestly though that might very well be an issue with sound card
technology more than anything else.

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a way to force jaws to only play in the left
or
right channel? I use a headset at work for calls and I would like it if I
could set at least jaws to only come to one ear and then I can set the
phone
calls to be heard in the other ear. I have a very hard time listening to
jaws and the phone through the same ear.
Thanks,
Jason
