Use your smallest fingertip. Run it along the opening. An HDMI and USB 2 slot will feel empty in the center of the opening, with nothing there to impede pushing in a small object. The USB 3 port will have a definite blockage that you will feel with your fingertip. Sounds like you may not have any USB 3 on your computer.

Again if the color blue does not help, again the 3.0 port feels like there is a slight obstruction in the center, as though the connecting pins are brought out toward the surface of the port.
