The pad is the cause but I have an HP laptop and it does not have a simple toggle for turning on and off the mouse pad. My Asus was very simple and this may be my first and last HP computer.

I would think there would be a way to easily disable/enable the mouse pad. this way you can enable it just when it is needed, unless you also use screen magnification.
