Yes, I know-I learned the hard way.  I have an old Asus and I bought one for
my wife.  In my book they are great.  Just do FN key+f9 and it toggles the
pad off and on.  I think that somebody on the list said that something has
to be changed in the bios and it requires sight.

Wayne,

I have an HP laptop for work and have not been able to find any way to turn
off the touchpad. I actually taped a piece of cardboard over the touchpad so
I wouldn't keep touching it accidentally. Not exactly an elegant solution,
but it works.

This is a huge drawback of HP laptops, imo, and the main reason I would
never buy one for my personal use.
