Hey Victor, I don't have a problem with my Jaws now. I just thought it takes up a lot of space. I know once in a while when I'm typing a email or letter Jaws will not read everything I've typed. He leaves out letters that I know that are there, but I don't know what to do about it. Hi Patti, Like you, I am also running Jaws 7, and like you, I also have Jaws 5.1 on my hard drive. I believe that I ran the merge function on my Jaws 7 when I installed it, so it happens to be using the settings from my previous version of Jaws. I haven't found it screwing up too badly except in the odd occasional places, but those have been things you would expect when you're running Jaws on a machine like mine. With that in mind, if you find that Jaws won't do something you ask it to, or you just changed a setting in the verbosity dialog box or configuration manager, and you find that Jaws still does that annoying habit of trying to make mince meat out of a word, then my guess is that Jaws is trying to deal with the fact that you have two "ENU" folders on your computer and it's trying to figure out which folder to use as the default, even though it shouldn't be doing that. I've been forced to come to the conclusion that the merge function isn't all it's cracked up to be, as David so recently pointed out, although most of my problems are hardware related, I'd imagine that Jaws has played some small part in the difficulties I am having, of which I will write to the list in a later post. If you find you are having problems, and you want Jaws to work on it's own, I would first check to see if that previous version of Jaws is in your start menu first. The best way to remove a program from your computer is to do an un-install, that way you make sure that you're not un-installing something you don't want to be by deleting something from the hard drive. If you see that pesky Jaws 5.1 in your start/Programs menu, and, as I said, it's giving you problems, then by all means, head to the tools menu, and installation maintenance and un-install it. Once you've done that, you'll have to restart Jaws using the hotkey you have assigned to it, or doing the ctrl-M and pressing J on your keyboard followed by enter. This will start up Jaws, which you can then use to search your hard drive for remnants of the un-install. Make sure that when you un-install the previous version of Jaws, you tell it not to leave shared components unless you have other Freedom Scientific software, such as Magic, or something else on your hard drive. If you don't, by all means, feel free to tell the computer that it can delete the shared files folder used by Freedom Scientific. Once that's done, make sure that Jaws has the option to start automatically when you log onto Windows checked on, and then restart your computer. If you merged your settings when you installed Jaws 7, you'll find that your settings are no longer the same, and you'll have to go through re-setting Jaws to your preference, however, I think you'll find that Jaws responds more now than it did before the un-install. In essence, what I'm trying to say by this novel, is if you want to delete it, you can, but make sure you follow the steps above first and take the necessary precautions to have the ability to start Jaws when you need it should it cut out on you. Hope this helps.
