Items that are shown will have a check mark; items that are not shown will not be checked. There's no need to continually press TAB to keep moving back and forth to see if the Show or Hide button is displayed. In fact, I just proved to myself that you can use the SPACEBAR to check or uncheck items in the list and you never have to touch these buttons, since unchecking a currently shown item will cause the Hide button to be replaced with the Show button.
